Introduction

While many corporate executives possess the core competencies of accounting, finance, marketing and management, many lack the understanding of how diverse cultures and customs shape our opinions and outlooks, as well as how they impact daily business decisions and activities.

Today's leading managers understand that capitalizing on international markets is no longer simply an area for future growth; it is essential for survival. That's why Webster University's School of Business and Technology developed the new MBA Certificate in Global Commerce. Drawing on Webster's distinctive worldwide network of campuses, the program takes students beyond basic business fundamentals to prepare them for operating across political, cultural and geographical boundaries.

The 18-credit-hour certificate program combines traditional classroom courses with a series of distinctive one-credit hour online learning modules - funded in part by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education - that provide an in-depth look at current business issues in a concentrated, four-week format. By being offered exclusively online, these modules allow students an opportunity to enrich their worldview with classmates, faculty and colleagues from around the globe.

Picture the possibilities of:

* Examining international trade documents with faculty and classmates who live and work in the European Union, Latin America and Southeast Asia.

* Exploring the impact of religion and culture on global market economies with classmates representing each of the world's major religions.

* Experiencing firsthand the challenges of managing a global team across distance and culture to solve complex projects in a timely and effective manner.
