Introduction
As the health care industry changes and expands, there's a growing demand for professionals with expertise in both health care and business administration. To help meet this demand, the College of Business Administration:
- Created the Healthcare Executive MBA program. This custom program offers core courses similar to the MBA program supplemented with a focus on issues facing the health care industry. Through the program, health care professionals from the Republic of China, studying in both their home country and in Hawaii, have received administrative training through advanced business courses.
- Conducted in association with Johns Hopkins University, the Hopkins-Hawaii Winter Institute provides management and leadership development for senior health care professionals. Combining a business and medical perspective, this one-week program covers industry trends, offers continuing education or graduate credits, and builds a foundation for executives grappling with the new realities of the health care industry.
- Conducted with the School of Nursing, the Leadership for Health Care Providers is one of a variety of leadership programs for industry personnel, from front-line providers to top executives and administrators.
- Offered in partnership with the Queen's Medical Center, Hawaii's largest health care provider, the CBA produced leadership and management training courses for physicians assuming administrative roles and responsibilities.
- Explored the export of health care services, management systems, and medical devices to Asian nations under a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce through the Pacific Asian Management Institute .
- Began research in partnership with Tripler Medical Center, on one aspect of telemedicine. Using a multimedia data transmission system similar to electronic mail, physicians are now able to make long-distance diagnoses without transporting the patient.
- Explored the feasibility of using advanced satellite technology to deliver medical images and communications to remote areas in Project MISSION (Medical Imaging Support via Satellite Integrated Optical Network)
