Introduction
Israel has long been at the forefront of innovation in medicine, developing groundbreaking, often live-saving, treatments for a range of conditions, from cancer to diabetes, Parkinson’s disease to hernias. Med-Tech Innovation is offered at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
The urgency and huge scale of the pandemic demanded not only innovation and top-quality research; effective management was required to streamline results, carry out proper clinical trials, and get products to the market as soon as possible.
The ability of the Israeli medical system to develop and roll out such treatments in a timely way is thanks to innovative technologies, a data-driven strategy and, perhaps above all, excellent medical management.
The International Med-Tech Innovation MBA program is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to successfully lead and manage a med-tech-oriented company. Taught by international experts and industry leaders, our Med-Tech MBA is the first University degree of its kind in Israel. Integrating academic, industrial and business knowledge into an innovative, top-notch curriculum, the program covers topics such as entrepreneurship, finance, digital health, healthcare IT, intellectual property, bio-design, quality assurance and regulatory compliance. Theoretical studies are enhanced by practical components including internships with leading biomedical professionals, networking opportunities with internationally renowned experts, and exposure to cutting-edge technologies emerging from Israel’s hospital system. Participants benefit tremendously from interaction with top international experts who share their knowledge and experience in managing biomedical research, and gain practical experience by applying theoretical concepts to real-life business challenges.

Admissions
Curriculum
The Med-Tech MBA program is spread across two consecutive semesters, with the first two including a professional internship at a venture capital and a startup. This practical experience is followed by the optional Trans-disciplinary Innovation Program (TIP) in the summer semester, which culminates in the opportunity for students to pitch their ideas to a panel of real investors and accelerators.
Courses include
- Finance
- Bio-Design
- Quality Assurance
- Entrepreneurship
Internships
One of the main goals of our international Med-Tech Innovation program is to give students practical experience in applying theoretical and analytical concepts to real-life business challenges. To this end, students take part in two types of internship project as part of the course:
- with a venture capitalist who has proven evidence of successful investments in entrepreneurship and innovation companies (semester 1); and
- at a startup, funded by the venture capitalist, that is currently in the process of developing a business strategy (semester 2).
As part of the internship projects, students visit different organizations with which the Hebrew University Business School collaborates with, and take part in organizational tasks and procedures. The students also participate regularly in interactive soft skill workshops, and monthly evaluations where they discuss their intern experience using theoretical frameworks from business studies and providing meaningful links between theory and practice.
To apply for an internship, students must meet with the internship coordinator prior to the beginning of the academic year and undergo personal interviews.
The internship is worth 4 credits.
Optional Extra: Trans-disciplinary Innovation Program (TIP)
In the summer semester, students undergo a uniquely practical, intensive four to six-week program that we call the Trans-disciplinary Innovation Program (TIP), for which they receive 6 credits towards their MBA.
The first four weeks of TIP cover a world-class curriculum that includes: computer vision, big-data/cyber, bioengineering and entrepreneurship. This is followed by a week focused on special themes in space and design and two weeks dedicated to projects. All this culminates in a final event where students have the opportunity to actually pitch ideas to a panel of real investors and accelerators.
Teaching is carried out through lectures, workshops, behind-the-scenes tours of emerging startups, on-site visits to major technology companies and interactive fireside group discussions with experienced angel investors and VCs.
