St. George's University

Introduction

Founded in 1976 with the goal of drawing the best talent and practices from around the world, St. George’s University (SGU) has become a leading center for academic excellence worldwide. With students and faculty drawn from more than 150 countries, SGU is truly an international institution, with a uniquely global perspective, perfectly poised to help educate students in this rapidly changing world. St. George’s University School of Medicine has four-, five-, six-, and seven-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) programs with entry points available for students from any education system around the world. SGU has a large network of 75+ affiliated hospitals and health centers in the US and UK and also has a unique opportunity for students to begin their medical career in Grenada, the United Kingdom, or India.

SGU Office of Career Guidance and Student Development

The Office of Career Guidance and Student Development (OCG) assists students in the Doctor of Medicine program to find their way through postgraduate medical training and licensure procedures effectively and successfully. The OCG is staffed by faculty and alumni who can advise students on preparing for licensing examinations and offer counseling in specialty and residency selection, as well as the residency application process in the United States and the United Kingdom. Students are provided advice on the importance of preparation for the required comprehensive examinations as well as the USMLE Step 1, examination requirements, clinical rotation time schedules, and obtaining postgraduate training.

Facilitated by the Department of Educational Services (DES), St. George’s University offers several foundation and support programs to prepare students for the study of medicine and veterinary medicine. DES works closely with students to provide advisement and learning aid services as they proceed through the following programs.

SGU Accommodations

Students who are non-citizens of Grenada must live on campus for at least their first two terms. Living on campus provides more opportunities to work and socialize with other students and faculty than off-campus life, giving you more time to meet people, cultivate relationships with faculty members, and make new friends. Your education will be enhanced by the opportunity to access study groups, campus activities, the library, and recreational facilities.

The campus provides a wide range of accommodations to best suit the needs of our multicultural student community.

Most of the residences have been configured as suites with either single or double bedrooms, its own bathroom, and a common kitchen/living area. In addition, all apartments have air conditioning, internet access, and complimentary cleaning and maintenance services.

Residence halls have laundry facilities and all bedrooms are furnished with twin-size beds, chairs, desks, closet space, and bookshelves. Kitchen facilities include a refrigerator, cooktop stove, and microwave.

Dormitories are staffed with Resident Assistants (RAs), who foster a community of mutual respect and cooperation, and provide assistance to students when needed. RAs are available to ensure that students are issued keys and comfortably settled into their rooms; they are available to handle emergencies 24/7.
