Introduction
We are proud that Ohio University's College of Business ranked among the best in the 2005 U.S. News & World Report's America's Best Colleges issue and that Ohio University ranked among the top 50 public national universities in the same publication!
At Ohio University, we recognize the challenges that experienced managers, professionals, and business leaders face in acquiring advanced education and achieving their career objectives. That's why our Executive MBA Program is designed so participants can earn the M.B.A. degree without career interruption.
An intellectually stimulating and intense educational experience, the Executive MBA offers senior-level managers and professionals in Central Ohio the opportunity to broaden their perspective, sharpen their business acumen, and refine their strategic management abilities.
The extensive experience and diverse backgrounds of the men and women in the Executive MBA Program complement the deliberate selection of participants across commercial, functional, and professional areas to create an enriching, gratifying, and rewarding graduate business education.
The focus of the Executive MBA Program is on strategic management.
The 18-month course of study is comprised of six interdisciplinary learning modules.Recognizing that business decisions are not made within the neatly defined boundaries of a single functional area, the learning module design is intended to reflect the way business is actually conducted. The six-modules integrate MBA core learning with real-time, real world application to inculcate a holistic and integrated approach to managing organizations and envisioning the future.
Executive MBA Learning Modules
- Executive Business Acumen & Strategy-- examines the interconnectivity of systems through the study of accounting, finance, quantitative analysis, and economics. Discussions will evolve around contemporary business issues.
- Strategic Environment of Business -- examines the domestic and global dimensions of organizations and analyzes the interactions between organizations and their environment-- legal/ethical, economic, social, political, and cultural.
- Value Creation in the Firm: Process, Systems and Management -- an internal, firm-level look at business through the examination of governance, operations, and MIS. Also considered are emerging markets, the knowledge economy, and building learning organizations.
- Transnational Management-- strategic thinking, formulation and execution explored through the study of the competitive environment, leadership and motivation, and organizational culture. A 14-day international consulting experience is an integral part of this module. Thorough pre-departure research, briefings and planning make this experience one of the highlights of the EMBA.
- Measuring and Managing Firm Performance -- considers the complexities of interactions among individuals and groups in terms of human capital, organizational development and change, and entrepreneurship. Links people to strategy through the use of metrics and data analysis
- Strategic Leadership and Transformational Change Management -- the final module synthesizes the knowledge and intellectual discipline acquired in the previous five modules. A comprehensive examination of business, this module further cultivates and refines the participant-executive's strategic leadership perspective. How business will drive change and be affected by change in the future is an integral part of the dialogue.
An Executive Competencies component is integrated across all modules. This unique feature blends executive coaching with developing the individual's self-awareness and self-assessment. This aspect of the EMBA is designed to keep the participant-executive from becoming obsolete long after their formal education is over, i.e. to become a lifelong learner.
