Introduction

The Melbourne Executive MBA (EMBA) has been developed for high potential senior managers who want the best of all worlds -- an experience that enables them to fulfil their career and personal aspirations, to study with their peers, enhance their job performance and maintain balance in their personal lives.

The Financial Times-- The MBS EMBA is ranked in the global top 50 EMBA programs by The Financial Times in 2007. With a total of ninety business schools included in the ranking, the Melbourne Business School EMBA is one of only two from Australia.

The MBS experience

The Executive MBA (EMBA) offered by Melbourne Business School is one of the most innovative management development programs available in the Asia-Pacific region. The EMBA allows high potential managers to acquire a well recognised, advanced management qualification while enhancing their job performance and maintaining balance in their personal lives. It is particularly suited for organisations which seek to develop their next generation of leaders and for experienced executives who wish to accelerate their professional development.

The program recognises that management is increasingly a cross-border activity. The international module will be conducted in USA, Europe & China. In this context, MBS is especially delighted to be associated with the Kellogg School of Management in Chicago, where the program builds from the marketing, strategy and leadership material studied in earlier module/s. In Europe the program is hosted by WHU Otto Beisheim Graduate School of Management in Koblenz, widely recognised as the top private business school in Germany.

The teaching faculty involved with this program is strongly motivated, with established reputations as outstanding management educators. The diverse class consists of proven achievers with a determination to make immediate contributions to their sponsoring organisations.

Program structure--Intensive, innovative, international

EMBA students will complete four fully residential modules of four weeks' duration, over a 14 or 16 month period. Participants return to their workplaces and apply their learning during the 3-4 month interval between modules.

The program is intensive. Faculty contact is up to 40 hours per week, with at least a further 20 hours of private study, preparation and group work. The learning methods are diverse, ranging from interactive class discussions, case studies and group problem solving, to experiential activities and formal presentations. Current management concepts and associated business thinking are covered in an applied context.

A significant proportion of the program is undertaken in small syndicate groups, further enhancing the dynamic learning experience. In order to promote additional learning within the group, a cooperative learning culture is encouraged. This is reinforced through a pass-fail assessment mode which substantially eliminates intra-group competition and develops a mutually supportive learning environment. Examinations are designed to further the development of problem-solving and analytical skills, testing students' ability to apply the new concepts to which they have been exposed. The program is complemented with carefully selected guest speakers who are acknowledged leaders in their respective fields.

Melbourne modules take place at MBS -- fully residential facility in Carlton, Melbourne; The international module is conducted in USA, Europe & China.
