Introduction
The mission of the Executive MBA is to enhance the managerial effectiveness of current professionals by communicating the knowledge and skills of a general MBA with a focus on global issues. This is accomplished through a carefully designed course of study, personal interaction, technology, and real-life experiences, within the context of a strong commitment to the educational themes and values of the College of Business Administration and Marquette University.
Marquette's Reputation for Quality Teaching
Marquette has a well-deserved reputation for having faculty who publish research, work in the real world, and care about their teaching and their students. Marquette is not a research mill, where graduate assistants teach and professors seldom show up in the classroom. Neither is it a sleepy teaching school where tired faculty recycle old lectures year after year. It is a Jesuit institution, requiring high standards in all areas. Those faculty teaching in the Executive MBA program are carefully selected to be the best from this strong group of faculty.
Focus on Skills, Not Just Knowledge
Your success as an executive depends on more than your knowledge of finance, accounting and marketing. It also depends on your skills at working within groups, making persuasive presentations, and diagnosing business problems. The innovative curriculum of Marquette's Executive MBA Program ensures that you have the theoretical and practical knowledge, but goes further, to be sure that you know how to use the knowledge to leverage your business in a dynamic business environment.
Team Interaction and Support
From the first day, the Marquette Executive MBA program emphasizes the importance and value of teamwork. Participants are formed into study teams of 4-5 members, selected to provide a wide range of talents in each team. Although participants are graded individually, it is expected that they will study and learn as a team.
In this way, you will not be learning on your own, but as part of a study team that provides support and assists in your education. In bringing a unique perspective to his or her assigned team, each participant gains an appreciation of the diversity of teams, and the value and difficulties of teamwork. You will find that the friendships and professional relationships from this study team last well beyond the length of the program.
Elective Topics Course
In the summer semester, participants are given the opportunity, voting as a class, to determine some of the topics they will be studying. Marquette faculty will present a series of potential topics that are covered in less than one semester. Topics may include (but are not limited to) Entrepreneurship, Database Marketing, The New Economy, Human Resources for the General Manager, Competitive Marketing Strategy, Managing Diversity, International Policy, Total Quality Management, Taxes and Strategic Decision-Making, and others. The class as a whole chooses which topics they feel are most valuable, and these make up the course. In this way, the Marquette Executive MBA is customized to your needs and interests.
