Introduction
The University of Limerick MBA is a post-experience generalist degree in business administration and is seen as a career accelerator or a means of changing career.
All programmes are of two years duration and are suitable for private company and public sector personnel who have signifiant management responsibilities, or whose careers are developing towards middle or senior management responsibilities. There is an annual intake to the Corporate MBA programme which is delivered on a block-release basis. A variant of this programme is provided in Clonmel, Co Tipperary, at the headquarters facility of Boston Scientific Ieland, to which there is an intake every two years.
Objectives
- To develop an advanced understanding of the main concepts and disciplines which are important for the managerial role.
- To equip students with a broad range of decision-making skills and an enhanced ability to respond to changes emanating from the international business environment.
- To enable participants to think and act strategically, develop their cretivity and assume leadership responsibilities.
- To develop the research skills necessary to formulate, conduct and report an independent piece of research.
- To prepare the BA graduate for senior positions in international business, industry and the public sector.
Programme Content
Year 1
Organisational Behaviour; Financial Reporting; International Political Economy; Data Analysis for Business Decisions; International Management; Corporate Finance; Globalisation & International Economic Issues; Market Orientation & Customer Focus.
A one-week residential workshop in August/September of Year 1, designed to international perspectives and insights, is an integral component of the programme.
Two residential schools are held during the summers of Year 1 and 2 where participants have a choice of two business related elective modules.
Year 2
Corporate Strategy Analysis; Information Systems & Knowledge Management; Relationship Marketing; Strategic Human Resource Management; Implementing Strategy; Strategic Leadership; Creativity, Innovation & Entrepreneurship; Managing Projects & Operations.
A thesis completes the programme.
Careers
MBA pogrammes are designed to provide additional skills for employees to be promoted within management or to change functions. The course is also designed to meet the managerial needs of owner/managers and self-employed individuals. A significant proportion of students have engineering or applied science primary qualifications and intend moving to managerial roles.
Entrance Requirements
Normally a primary degree with first or second class honours or an approved professional qualification. At least four years experience at supervisory level or above is normally required, preferably gained aftger the degree or professional qualification. In the case of candidates without honours, five years experience will be required. Mature candidates who gained their experience before the required qualification will be eligible. An acceptable score in the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) and a satisfactory interview with the course selection panel are also required.
