Why do an MBA?

An MBA (Master of Business Administration) is a graduate degree focused on building leadership skills and learning business principles. But for most students, MBAs offer much more than that: a stronger professional network, access to job opportunities, and a bigger paycheck.

Given the amount of time, money and effort an MBA really requires, it is really important to think where you fit in the equation to decide whether or not it is worth to pursue an MBA.

The skills that many organizations are looking for range from empathy and team management to understanding how to look ahead, set strategic goals, and influence major stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.

  1. Focus on leadership: A large focus of an MBA is leadership. Your leadership journey will include both turning inward, looking at yourself to better understand what kind of leader you are, as well as turning outward to examine several aspects of leading and influencing in multiple situations. At HEC Liège Luxembourg, while being a very important part of our Core Curriculum, we also give our participants plenty of opportunities to dig deeper into leadership if they choose to through specialised electives such as Management Essentials, Change Management, Human Resources, Organisational Behaviour, Project Management, and Leadership Presence, just to name a few.
  2. Provides a 360-degree perspective of the business: Besides decision making and leadership, the MBA will provide you with an understanding of all the major areas of business. This is how you become a well-rounded leader equipped with a good balance of hard-, and soft skills to succeed.
  3. Expand and diversify your network: Doing an MBA is a great way to extend your professional network. You will spend a lot of time and go through challenging experiences with the other participants. With a little attention, you will build relationships that last a lifetime. Furthermore, good schools tend to cultivate a strong alumni community, of which the student will also become a member upon successful completion of the program.
  4. Practical learning environment: What you learn in class, with projects, or in preparation for class is real, relevant, and practical. You will not have to wait until you complete the MBA so your organisation and you can start benefitting from your studies. We at HEC Liège Luxembourg take pride in the fact that participants can take what they experience in class, and directly apply it to their organisations to have immediate impact.
  5. To accelerate your career path: There are multiple options available to graduates after completion of the programmes. Usually an MBA graduate is quite adaptable and versatile to be plugged into any vertical of the business.
