Curriculum
The Sprott MBA’s integrated management curriculum has been redesigned to prepare tomorrow’s business leaders to lead change and drive global impact.
You will be immersed in an integrated set of core courses that will introduce strategic business concepts and address sustainability, responsible leadership, global awareness and entrepreneurship. Active learning is emphasized throughout the program and includes live case studies, online simulation, and real-time, client-based projects.
You can develop specific competencies within your MBA by selecting one of our market-driven concentrations. Or, complete your MBA without a concentration and customize your program with a selection of electives.
Note: Concentrations are not available for winter intake students
Business Analytics
The Sprott MBA concentration in Business Analytics empowers students to use organizational data to enhance decision making across areas that include finance, marketing, human resources, production and operations management.
The MBA concentration in Business Analytics is part of Carleton University’s Collaborative Master’s in Data Science. Students following this concentration will take specialized courses on data analysis using statistical methods, have access to new tools, and will have the opportunity to engage with students in other disciplines to enhance their understanding of analytics.
Note: For applicants to the Business Analytics concentration, transcripts should indicate strong general quantitative skills.
Financial Management
The Sprott MBA Financial Management concentration provides the necessary tools and concepts for those who want to excel in corporate financial management. The financial management function cuts across strategic, tactical and operational decisions, as well as functional areas that include accounting, operations, marketing and logistics.
Courses provide a mix of finance and accounting tools and concepts with linkages to firm strategy and corporate planning. A wide range of issues are covered that include: managing short and long-term capital, investment decisions, enterprise valuation, mergers and acquisitions, international finance, corporate governance, capital markets, financial innovations and managing for value. Courses are interactive and rely extensively on case method.
Management and Change
The Sprott MBA Management and Change concentration develops the theoretical and practical skill sets needed for success in this dynamic and complex environment. The courses in this concentration explore the different aspects of what today’s managers need to know to effectively lead and manage people, teams and change.
This concentration is ideal for managers and professionals who are looking to improve their mastery of management skills or advance their career to senior managerial levels. Students will learn to think strategically and develop applied skills in management, leadership and change.
Climate Change Collaborative Specialization
This unique collaborative specialization draws on Carleton’s demonstrated strengths and its internationally recognized climate change researchers across our faculties, creating an integrated, diverse specialization responsive to student demand in this area. Working directly with professors and students from across the various faculties on campus, students in this specialization will examine the interconnected nature of climate change, including the impacts and potential options to manage within ecosystems, communities and institutions and explore collaborative opportunities to address this global challenge.
