About Lithuania

Tucked away between Latavia and Belarus on the Eastern side of the Baltic Sea, the Republic of Lithuania is known for its rolling hills and beautiful forests. As the largest of the three Baltic states, Lithuania holds much pull in Eastern Europe. With vast amounts of agricultural land, the country has a developing economy that is quickly becoming one of the strongest in the European Union. It is also noted by the United Nations Human Development Index as a "very high human development" country. This growing economy draws many people to study business within the country.

Business Studies in Lithuania

As the first Eastern European country to open a university, Lithuania has long valued the education of its people, and many from outside of Lithuania are starting to notice this fact. Lithuania has a variety of business study programs that welcome foreign students to their schools. However, universities in Lithuania require their students to study in Lithuanian. Those who are not fluent in the language can take a one-year equalizing course to provide them wit the language studies they need.

Students who study in Lithuania begin with a four-year Bachelor's degree program. Those who are interested in business studies will continue through a post graduate program that takes between one-and-a-half and two years. For a master's in business, a student will need to plan to study for a total of six years, unless they come to Lithuania with some undergraduate work already completed. The country boasts 24 colleges and 23 universities for students to consider.

Lithuanian colleges and universities break their academic years into two semesters, typically in the spring and fall, and holiday periods. While the specific dates will vary, all students are guaranteed a full month of uninterrupted holiday in the summer months.

Schools in Lithuania have 50 state-funded places, which are available to the highest-scoring students without tuition fees. Residents of the European Union or people of Lithuanian descent who are no longer living in the country are eligible for these places, as are foreigners who have permanent residency in the country. Other applicants are welcome to business studies programs in Lithuania, but they must pay tuition as outlined by the school of their choice.

Graduating with a degree from a Lithuanian university or college positions a student for excellent prospects in the world of business. Lithuanian professional qualifications are recognized around the world, and the country has agreements in place with the academic exchanges in 16 other countries, so credits will transfer if needed.
