The postgraduate MBA-Program is oriented towards pursuing an interdisciplinary approach of the Facility Management.

Program Objectives

The graduates of the postgraduate Professional MBA Facility Management Program will be able to solve the Facility Management issues independently, for examples, the holistic management of real estate and tangible and intangible infrastructure of a company or an organization.

Based on the interdisciplinary approach of the Facility Management the graduates learn following:

  • Application of strategic, tactical and operative components of Facility Management for effective and efficient support for the process of core businesses and for customer satisfaction;
  • Examine and respectively manage the real estate along its whole economic life cycle (Concept phase, Planning phase, Construct phase, Marketing phase, Purchasing Phase, Acquisition and Operational phase, Reconstruction / Renovation / Modernisation phase, Vacancy phase, Liquidation phase);
  • To set, purchase, evaluate and manage the building related services (Facility Services);
  • Application of Fundamentals of business administration such as logistics (procurement, sales and others), Marketing, Accounting and Controlling, Economics and managerial decision making techniques for the solutions of real estate and facility management tasks and problems;
  • To understand the organizational, operational and decision making processes within the companies and organizations and to lead the co-workers;
  • Mastering Basics and tools of the project management ;
  • to understand the legal conditions and thereby satisfy the expectation of the clients to meet all legal requirements;
  • Target-oriented application of IT-Systems in Facility Management Projects.

Interdisciplinary Project (8 ECTS)

Integrative application of the individual contents of the modules for a practical assignment of tasks of Facility Management

Master' Thesis (15 ECTS)

The practice-oriented Master´s Thesis, based on academic criteria, aims to enhance participants' skills and knowledge in the specific subjects of the MBA program. It is recommended to select a specific and practical problem from their professional activity and to solve it with acquired skills and knowledge from the MBA program. A supervisor will support a student with his/her feedback and advice to compose the thesis.

Sum of ECTS: 90 ECTS

Additionally excursions will take place in the framework of the Professional MBA Facility Management program.

Target Group

The Professional MBA Facility Management program is partly targeted at persons with at least two years professional experience who wish to pursue an economic education for a future management and leadership function within Real Estate or Facility Management.

But the postgraduate university program is not only targeted at Facility Managers and service providers but also people who want to make a career development by way of further training and people with an interest in General Management Topics.

Objectives

Obtained Competence from MBA-Program

Specifically participants will get professional, methodical as well as social competences during the MBA Program.

(1) Professional Competences:

The participants gain especially following professional competences:

  • Application of Fundamentals of business administration such as Logistics (procurement, sales and others), Marketing, Accounting and Controlling, Economics and managerial decision making techniques for the solution of real estate and facility management tasks and problems.
  • Application of strategic, tactical and operative components of Facility Management for effective and efficient support for the process of core businesses and for customer satisfaction.
  • considering and appropriate managing of the real estate during it's whole economic life cycle (Concept phase, Planning phase, Construct phase, Marketing phase, Purchasing Phase, Acquisition and Operational phase, Reconstruction / Renovation / Modernisation phase, Vacancy phase, Liquidation phase)
  • specify architectural and constructional tasks including requirements to technical building services in cooperation with experts. Evaluate solutions and follow their implementation.
  • set, purchase, evaluate and manage the building related services (Facility Services)
  • to understand the organisational and operational as well as the decision making processes within companies and organisations and to lead coworkers
  • to understand the legal conditions and meet the legal compliance of clients, for example the fulfillment of all legal requirements
  • Target-oriented application of IT-Systems and their data structure in Facility Management Projects

(2) Methodical Competences:

Participants acquire following competences

  • Mastering of the basics and tools of project management and its application in Facility Management-Projects
  • Basics and tools of the project management (for example, Supply Chains)
  • Mastering of complexity, dynamic and objective uncertainties
  • Creative problem solving ability and generation of inventive and realizable ideas
  • Ability to make sensible decisions even if uncertain or with incomplete data
  • Ability to prepare complex data and background information and the consequent conclusions for non-experts and to communication goal-oriented and convincing (for example, in the frame work of presentations)
  • to self-organize and to develop one's own time management
  • “Meta-Ability“, to expand one’s own knowledge independently and autonomously in the future due to the ability to connect with leading researchers and international scientific literature.

3) Social Competences:

Participants intensify their social ability in terms of

Teaching & Learning Structure

Time Schedule

In order to optimally combine study and work this postgraduate Program will be organized part-time. Classes will be held modular in blocks every 3 to 6 weeks - from Thursday morning till Sunday evening. The classes will last from 9.00 am until 7.00 pm each day. Classroom Participation

The participants are expected to attend all class sessions as well as to participate in discussing the topics in the lectures and contributing to assignments in class. The performance is also assessed through evaluation of the classroom participation.

Examination, Master's Thesis

At or towards the end of each module there will be an assignment, either an oral or written exam or an individual or group homework. Such assignments may include the completion of projects/cases and the delivery of essays/reports on certain topics addressed during the module.

The Professional MBA Facility Management is concluded with a practice-oriented master thesis.

University Library & CEC-Library

The Library of the TU Wien holds more than 1.000.000 items and reference material, 2.800 scientific journals and periodicals and a wide range of CD-ROMs and on-line databases. Most books and periodicals in the Main Library are on open-access shelves from the ground floor to the 5th floor. All these items are arranged by subject.

Participants have access to the Library of the TU Wien and the Library of the Continuing Education Center.
