The aim of the ESE MBA programme is to provide an inter-disciplinary and integrative educational programme for individuals seeking to consolidate their managerial achievements to date and prepare for a career in senior management, ultimately at the highest strategic levels. The programme is designed to expose programme participants to the latest thinking and practice across a wide range of management disciplines. Teaching materials are derived from cutting-edge academic research in order to develop critical powers of analysis and reflection, and practical and inter-personal skills in preparation for key leadership positions in industry, commerce and the public sector. The MBA will equip students with an understanding of organisations, their management, and the changing global environment in which they operate. Students will build on their existing understanding of management and organisation within a framework that enables them to relate their business experience to contemporary management ideas and practices. This is achieved trough critical thinking, teamwork, creativity and personal development in a highly interactive and stimulating environment that encourages rigorous, relevant and innovative learning and research.

The main aims of the programme then are;

  • To facilitate the advanced study of organisations, their management and the changing external context in which they operate.

Course Programme

The Master in Business Administration (MBA) programme is a 12-month full-time course. All of the ESE postgraduate master degree programmes are taught in English. The MBA at ESE has a standard 180 UK credit structure (90 ECTS credits). Completion of the MBA programme includes:

  • full-time or part-time*, compulsory attendance
  • final business project
  • internship placement (optional)

*Part-time at ESE London is only available to British and EU students

Term I

4 core courses, common to all MBA students, regardless of specialisation, and part 1 of Leadership, Governance and Corporate Sustainability module.

Term II

4 core courses, common to all MBA students, regardless of specialisation, and part 2 of Leadership, Governance and Corporate Sustainability module.

Term III

4 specialisation courses in Marketing, International Finance, International Business or Entrepreneurship, and Part 3 of Leadership, Governance and Corporate Sustainability module.

Term IV

Optional internship placement, typically three-months in duration and final business project.

Specialisations

Marketing Specialisation

The Marketing specialisation explores critical marketing communication tools, techniques and media, giving a special emphasis to integrated marketing communications (IMC) and its recent evolution; the importance of services within modern economics and the marketing goals and strategies that need to be tailored accordingly; the concepts, principles, tools and techniques of marketing management; marketing decision-making and the relationship of marketing functions to other management functions; ethical behaviour in organisations and corporate responsibility.

International Finance Specialisation

The International Finance specialisation addresses investment decisions as taken by institutional investors (banks, insurance companies, pension funds, mutual funds), as well as by individual households; the principles of investment and risk management for individual financial products as well as portfolios of these products; a step by step perspective of the merger and acquisition process; multinational financial management decisions, global dimensions of finance, foreign exchange markets and rates, derivatives, assessing and managing exposure, acquiring capital, foreign direct investment, multinational capital budgeting, multinational cash management, international trade finance and the international tax and governance environment; ethical behaviour in organisations and corporate responsibility.

International Business Specialisation

Students in the International Business specialisation will examine issues such as the problems affecting cross-border transactions from a legal standpoint and legal issues that often arise in the international business environment; decision-making processes used in operations management, and the quantitative tools used to make effective decisions; process planning and analysis, quality management, operations strategies, facilities layout, forecasting, scheduling, and project management; the economics of business and finance and insights into the complexities of the international business environment from a European perspective; ethical behaviour in organisations and corporate responsibility.

Entrepreneurship Specialisation

The MBA specialisation in Entrepreneurship includes the study of theory building and understanding of the factors shaping the identification, evaluation, and exploitation of opportunities and the creation of new organisations; conceptual frameworks and practical tools of negotiation; strategic leadership and its impact on business performance developing analytical skills, self awareness and leadership skills; ethical behaviour in organisations and corporate responsibility.

Internship Programme

ESE offers one of the most extensive and competitive internship programmes available today. The quality of the placement service is a result of the long established relationships that ESE has fostered with global companies for years. This means that students are given excellent opportunities to enter the job market and gain exposure. The internships are structured, evaluated and recognised as an integral part of the course of study and provide each student the opportunity to spend a period of time in a work environment consistent with the chosen specialisation. ESE has an internship department in every centre responsible for maintaining close relationships with both students and companies, in order to offer each student the possibility of entering a company or an area of business which is of true interest. The completeness of this preparation - a mix of academic excellence, internationality and work experience - allows ESE graduates to kick off their careers without hesitation, often in the same companies that hosted them for their internships.

Entry Requirements

Entrance into one of the MBA programmes at ESE requires the submission of the following documents to the Admissions Office at the ESE centre of interest:

  • Application form, completed correctly
  • A good first degree (second class honours or GPA 3.0 and above)*
  • Resume / CV + Personal Statement
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • IELTS/ TOEFL/CEC** score
  • Three photographs (passport size)
  • Photocopy of passport/ID
  • Application fee (£50) to be paid online addressed to the European School of Economics***

NB: All non-English documents must be officially translated.

*Candidates who do not hold the required qualification but who are able to demonstrate relevant work experience in a managerial position or above for a minimum of 3 years will also be considered.

**Candidates who have completed their studies in the English language (at least 2 years) are not required to submit this test. ESE discourages any candidate with a TOEFL score lower than 617/250/105 (Paper/Computer/Internet) or a Cambridge English Advanced Certificate score lower than grade B or IELTS score lower than 7.00 from applying as the language of instruction is English. *** ESE application fees are non-refundable and must be paid (online or money order) to the European School of Economics prior to the processing of your application. Fee payment must accompany a completed application. Applications arriving without appropriate fees will not be considered.

Scholarships

The scholarship is awarded by the ESE as a partial deduction from the annual tuition fee. Each student profile is considered individually. This scholarship is based on both the academic merit and need of the student applicant. It is therefore important that scholarship applications provide the a complete profile of the student's personal, professional and/or academic merits. To apply for the ESE Scholarship students must complete the scholarship application form and send it together with the MBA application form and documents, including a financial statement, to the ESE admissions office where they wish to study. To maintain their scholarship award students must demonstrate continued academic excellence throughout their studies at ESE.
