Curriculum

Course Of Study

Yale SOM students are required to complete 18 courses over two academic years. During the summer between the first and second years, students undertake an internship or other approved activity. In the second year, students focus on elective courses and have the option of fulfilling the requirements for a Concentration (3 courses) in a particular area of interest.


Core Curriculum

The Core Curriculum equips students with the basic skills needed to succeed in today's fast-changing global business environment.

Students master the language and concepts of business.

Exemptions


All students have the opportunity to take core course exemption examinations offered at the beginning of each semester and may be exempted from one or more core courses by demonstrating expertise in these disciplines.


First Year

The core curriculum provides a solid framework for finance, accounting, marketing, organizational behavior, economics, operations, and political analysis.

Summer Internship

During the summer between their first and second year, students participate in a summer internship in order to supplement their education with hands-on experience. This also allows students to fine-tune career objectives for the second-year job search.

Second Year

Students develop expertise by pursuing a concentration. This advanced study adds both depth and breadth through elective subjects.


The In-Depth Study

Students have the opportunity to pursue in-depth study of one area of management that is of particular interest to them by completing a three-course Concentration. Concentrations are offered in the following areas: Finance, Strategy, Marketing, Leadership, Operations Management, Public Management, and Nonprofit Management.
