Estonian Business School (EBS)

MBA in Digital Society is a masters programme that aims

  • To give managers, specialists and consultants knowledge and skills in corporate and organisation management in a digitalizing society.
  • To simplify the development of new business and digital technologies and their implementation in the main operations of a company or organisation.
  • To enable the programme participants to create an international network of students, companies and organisations.
  • To support the implementation of the Smart Specialisation Strategy and the internationalisation of a country as a digital society by developing digital and business technology management competencies in companies and organisations.
  • We expect managers, area managers and specialists in companies and public organisations, consultants to take part in the studies.

Study methodology

  • Combined study methods integrating individual studies (e.g. work with data), group-based studies (teamwork projects) and e-studies (assisted by e-study platforms).
  • The acquisition of key competences is based on the acquisition of skills transferred in small groups.
  • Development and management of digitalization-related projects in interdisciplinary and multicultural teams in cooperation with companies and organisations.

Outcomes of the modules

Digital Transformation

The participants will acquire knowledge of and skills in the following:

  • The developments in digital economy and society through a wider knowledge of the key theoretical approaches and empirical cases;
  • The costs and benefits of various developments in the area of digital economy and society from economic, political, social and ethical perspective;
  • The developments in digital economy and society with concrete international and domestic business strategies as well as policies of countries and international organisations;
  • What cyber threats are and how to mitigate human risk behaviour.

Communication Skills and Tools

The participants will acquire knowledge of and skills in the following:

  • The long-term positive image for business and how to create and maintain a mutual supporting atmosphere between business and its environment;
  • How to design a research and development project, including methodological soundness, analytical skills and reader-friendly formatting skills;
  • What the concept of strategic marketing is and its integration with communications and sales and how to build a strategic marketing approach;
  • How to create a presentation and present ideas clearly.

Organisation and People

The participants will acquire knowledge of and skills in the following:

  • How organisations as entities and as processes grasp the main consequences of one or another view to organisational stability and change;
  • What the essence and role of leadership and followership is, how to apply coaching to develop their followers;
  • What the dynamics of diverse teams are, how to navigate through different value systems and lead a different type of diverse teams.

Data Management

The participants will acquire knowledge of and skills in the following:

  • The opportunities for and the impact of data on businesses, data management methods and tools in a data-centred society. The aspects of managerial decision-making and the process in data management;
  • How to specify the core dimensions of a project, structure it and work with a project charter. What the team dynamics is and how to leverage teams during different phases of the project;
  • Various aspects of business analysis: business model analysis, customer analysis, product analysis, etc. What the technological applications for business intelligence are.

IT for Business and Technology Management

The participants will acquire knowledge of and skills in the following:

  • How to identify the components of enterprise information architecture and its strategic role in managing the IT portfolio to achieve enterprise strategy;
  • How to analyse the disruptive potential of technology, assess its transformative impact on standard business practices and formulate appropriate responses for an organisation;
  • How to synthesize new technologies and vistas in the digital space with management initiatives for enabling IT business-smart decisions, digital transformations, enhanced customer experiences and offerings;
  • What cyber-security for businesses is and how to prevent businesses against cyber-attacks and take decisions and courses of action in case of a cyber-attack.

Performance Management and Finance

The participants will acquire knowledge of and skills in the following:

  • How to evaluate financial performance based on financial reporting, apply managerial accounting concepts;
  • The determinants of enterprise value and the corporate finance tools available for increasing the enterprise value;
  • How to design and apply strategic performance management systems;
  • The newest methods and tools in the automatic processing in accounting and finance functions and how to apply the methods and tools.

Strategic and Innovation Management

The participants will acquire knowledge of and skills in the following:

  • How to build up strategy as practice in an agile context. How open innovation, crowdsourcing, blogging and jamming have changed the strategy making practice;
  • How customer perspective has shaped the way we perceive our products and services in a holistic manner, having impact to whole customer journeys;
  • What different business model patterns are, and how reshaping business models helps to generate disruptive innovation and rethink the possibilities of creating value for our customers;
  • How to make strategies measurable. How to manage even those aspects of your strategies that you cannot measure easily.

Capstone Project

The participants will acquire knowledge of and skills in the following:

  • What are the types of development projects and methodological approaches;
  • How to solve a problem-based project task and compose a development project applying an appropriate methodology;
  • How to present and defend a development project

Admission

Admission to EBS Master's studies takes place twice a year - in summer and in winter (only EU). Admitted students can start their studies either in September or in February (only EU). The first step for applying to EBS is filling in the application form. After sending the application, EBS study consultant will contact you and explain the following admission process.

Maximum 21 students per year are accepted into the programme. The admission process goes through several stages, where eligibility and suitability to the programme are reviewed. The steps include a letter of motivation, CV, admissions interview and case interview.

The admission for study year 2017/2018 is now over.

Admission deadline for study year 2018/2019for EU candidates is the 5th of January, 2018 and 1st of July, 2018.

Entry Requirements

Undergraduate diploma (or higher) Bachelor´s degree, Diploma of Professional Higher Education or equivalent Working experience as a leader, entrepreneur or specialist 2-3 years

The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English. Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original.

English - Accepted proof of proficiency: FCE or CAE, IELTS 5.5+ or TOEFL 69+

Minimum

TOEFL iBT score 87 - Test result has to be sent directly to EBS by the test centre. It is also possible to order the test results to be sent to EBS online. Please note that TOEFL iBT test score is valid 2 years. IELTS with a minimum overall band score of 5.5, with 5.5 or above in each band. Please note that IELTS test result is valid 2 years. Cambridge FCE - Candidates presenting Cambridge English tests should indicate their ID number (a 3 letter and 6 number combination) and secret number (4 digits) in their application form. Instructions for writing the motivation letter:

Introduction of the candidate – Summary to the letter: Please start with a 600 – 1000 character summary of your background – experience, personality, something fun (i.e. hobby) we should know about you. Motivation and relevance to the program: Please answer at least two questions below. Please keep the answers to maximum 2 pages with an equivalent of font Garamond in font size 12, (minimum 2500 and maximum 6000 characters).
