Program Description

MBA - Concentration in International Management

SIMT - Stuttgart Institute of Management and Technology

Program Overview

The transition of the world economy towards enacting market mechanism and globalization implies the escalating creation of further opportunities for youthful, ambitious and knowledgeable university graduates. Therefore, the importance of management as an academic discipline and professional career should be emphasized.

The International Management (IM) program offers a flexible and comprehensive managerial degree. Students develop a broad range of business skills and learn the concepts needed to effectively manage the different functional areas of a company. The program fosters an understanding of the interdependencies of company decisions and how value can be created by these decisions.

The IM Program (IM) also has a strong base in technology management. Stuttgart is well known as one of the most important high-tech regions of Europe with such companies as DaimlerChrysler, Bosch, Trumpf, and Hewlett-Packard headquartered here.

The IM Program is designed for future leaders in global business markets. Graduates will be able to make informed decisions in complex international environments and communicate the most effective management techniques and their applications. In addition, they will have the ability to move effortlessly between the different functional areas of a company.

Program Structure

The overall structure of the degree requires successful completion of 20 courses in four terms. The concentration in International Management consists of twelve courses in advanced management from the general MBA program, six international management modules and two elective courses. The elective modules can be selected from a range of options.

Throughout the program, students also carry out in-company industry projects under the guidance of a faculty coach and company manager. The in-company project (Master Thesis) is a capstone element of the SIMT MBA program, challenging students to integrate aspects of management theory and practice, to analyze key issues posed by a host organization and to develop sound and original recommendation for action. Students, in teams of up to five, are mixed as to national origins and previous experience to ensure cross-cultural exposure and training in their project work.

Throughout their academic studies, students may also take German lessons and European study courses.

After the successful completion of the fourth semester, optional internships will provide students with practical experience in working for a company for up to four months.
