The EMBA program has a well-deserved reputation for exceptional teaching quality and excellent staff support and we re-engineer our course material every year to reflect changes in the global business environment. We want to ensure that our Executives receive an MBA education that is relevant, practical, and timely, which is why we arehighly rankedinIvy Exec,Business Week, The Wall Street Journal, and Financial Times.
The program, comprised of 57 credits, can be completed in twenty months, with courses conducted from early September to May. The Rutgers Executive MBA program admits a cohort group once a year that begins in the Fall semester only.
A short course, Mathematics for Managers, is offered during the last two weeks of August for incoming students who want a refresher course in College Algebra. In addition, an optional Excel and Microsoft Suite for Executives course is conducted in late August for incoming students who would like a quick hands-on overview of the most essential business software applications.
- Each term begins with an intensive week of classes in residence. The week immerses participants in the semester's courses and also fosters a strong sense of camaraderie and class cohesion. Typically, one subject is taught in the morning, followed by another in the afternoon after lunch. Every class has a coffee break with snacks and refreshments. In some cases, short classes are also conducted after dinner. The week-in-residence allows participants to get acquainted with their classmates and their individual learning teams. Students refer to the week-in-residence as an “intensive, yet exhilarating” experience.
- After the week in residence, all subsequent classes are held on the Newark Campus at 1 Washington Park. This special arrangement allows you to work full time and go to school full time. One subject is taught in the morning followed by a different class in the afternoon. The morning class is held from 8:30-12:15, with a coffee break at 10:15. Lunch is from 12:15 to 1:15. Following lunch, the afternoon class begins at 1:15. There is a coffee break at 3pm and classes end at 5pm.
From Fall 2018 onwards, Rutgers EMBA will be switching to a Saturday-Sunday schedule from the current Friday-Saturday schedule. Over the last few years it has become increasingly challenging for our program participants to get off from work on the Fridays, hence this impending change in the schedule from September 2018.
The basic structure will remain the same: Each semester will begin with the usual week-in-residence in Week One in Dolce, Basking Ridge, followed by an all-day Sunday in Week Two at RBS in Newark, followed, in turn, in by an all-day session on Saturday at RBS in Newark in Week 3, and so on.
- Each participant becomes part of a study group that works as a team on class projects and homework assignments. Valuable contacts and lasting friendships are an important by-product of the study groups.
- Participants have an exceptional opportunity to interact with international business leaders during a 10 day summer program in China that occurs in June, following their first year in the program.
Students can obtain a formal specialization in a certain area by selecting all three of their elective courses in that particular area during the final semester. For example, a participant who chooses all three electives in finance will obtain a formal Finance concentration.
For Spring 2018, we are proud to announce that The Powerhouse will offer three concentrations: Finance (globally ranked), Marketing (completely re-engineered), and now, Supply Chain Management (again, globally ranked).
The new SCM concentration will include an elective that will allow each participant to earn a Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma while in the program. Students who choose this elective will then graduate with the Green Belt as well as with the MBA degree. The other two SCM electives will be chosen from the courses: Surviving Disruptions in Supply Chains, and Global Procurement Strategies, and SCM Finance.
Some examples of Marketing electives offered in the past are: Web Optimization, Social and Digital Marketing, Market Research, and Branding Strategy.
The Finance electives are chosen from the courses: Investment Analysis, Valuation, Mergers and Acquisitions, Financial Strategy, Analyzing Derivatives, and Global Monetary Policy.
Executive MBA Admissions
Admission to the Executive MBA Program is highly competitive, and enrollment is limited. Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and about 10 years of full-time employment.
Each person is considered on the basis of an individual application, admission test scores, transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a personal interview. The criteria for selection include the applicant's potential for success at senior management levels and the ability and motivation to participate in a rigorous and intensive course of study while employed.
If you are an executive or mid-level manager who desires to broaden your perspective, add depth to your business skills, sharpen your ability to make effective management decisions, and enhance your opportunities for career advancement, acquiring an MBA from Rutgers will give you the advantage of not only knowing the rules of competition, but the ability to write them as well.
Each year, the Rutgers Executive MBA Program accepts an exclusive group of about 60 students beginning each fall semester only.
