Program Description

Our full-time MBA program is a two-year educational journey that will take you through the American Airlines Global Leadership Program(AAGLP), the Business Leadership Center (BLC) and the Associate Board Executive Mentoring Program. In addition, our various peer interaction activities will give you the opportunity to openly exchange ideas, develop concepts, and test theories with classmates, who will challenge you and in the process help you become a better leader.

Journey through the American Airlines Global Leadership Program (AAGLP)

At the end of your first year, you and your classmates will travel to Greater China, India, Europe, or Latin America for two weeks to meet with business leaders and government officials, tour corporate campuses and research parks, and immerse yourself in the local culture.

Hone Your leadership Skills in the Business Leadership Center (BLC)

Taught by industry practitioners, not professors, the BLC is where academic theory and real-world experience converge. Many of our students say the BLC was the deciding factor in choosing SMU Cox. Recruiters consistently tell us, when all other qualities are equal among candidates, they look for strong leadership and communications skills to set-top candidates apart from others. Through the BLC, you move beyond the textbook and receive specialized team-building training and one-on-one coaching that gives you a distinct advantage over candidates from other schools.

Let the Associate Board Executive Mentoring Program be your guide

A mentor from the Associate Board Executive Mentoring Program can guide you through the MBA program and your career search. Many mentors are SMU Cox alumni and are familiar with the experience. As a participant in this program, you will rub elbows with an elite group of 200-plus business leaders from some of the most prominent companies in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Executives serving on our Associate Board provide you with the contacts, career advice, and industry insight that only experienced professionals can offer. It is easy to see how valuable this program can be to the advancement of your career.

One of the primary attractions for many of our students has been the overall balance a Cox School of Business education provides. Graduates leave knowing how to communicate effectively, lead through inspiration, manage seven-figure budgets, and negotiate a global trade. The Cox graduate understands that success is a moving target, and that quick thinking and flexibility are the keys to success.

The Cox curriculum is a continually evolving program designed to anticipate the skills you will need to be successful and challenges you to develop them to your potential. By integrating our world-renowned Global Leadership Program, Business Leadership Center and Associate Board Mentoring Program with a flexible approach to teaching, you can customize your education based upon your professional goals, focusing your course selection to become an expert in a specific field or choosing a variety of disciplines for a more general management perspective. See Electives and Concentrations for more details. Each term is divided into two modules — A and B. The modules are eight weeks long. Some courses are closely integrated, while others are stand-alone.
