Berlin School of Creative Leadership

Introduction

A Business School Bridging the Gap Between Leadership Research and Industry Challenges

Theories can help you grasp principles you need to lead, but realities in the world of business make implementing that knowledge a very tall order indeed. Because of the breakneck pace of change that’s now common in practically every creative industry, simply staying on top of the most recent developments can be a huge challenge. And to achieve real success, you have to do more than just keep up. You have to pioneer and innovate, and inspire your team to do the same.

We help you bridge the gap between research and the edge of the envelope in your creative field, with faculty made up of top experts from academia and frontline executives – each a member in our unique and expanding global network of creative leaders. With their help and guidance, participants acquire the tools they need to lead, learning how to shoulder more responsibility and become effective, creative leaders at their companies.

Just as important for degree candidates is the peer learning that takes place during modules. Each class brings together a multidisciplinary group of experienced leaders from the creative industries, and their collaboration intensifies the challenging and rewarding learning experience. It also brings a further big advantage: By the time they finish our program, graduates are linked into a network of fellow professionals that spans the globe.

The Berlin School of Creative Leadership is the world’s first educational institute and think-tank dedicated solely to leadership for the creative industries. Based in Berlin and operated by a not-for-profit foundation, the school’s mission is to help develop leaders whose innovative ideas will refresh and transform the creative landscape.

Executive MBA at the Berlin School of Creative Leadership The Executive MBA in Creative Leadership is a Master’s degree tailored for professionals in areas of business and industry where creativity sets the standards. The program is designed for those with significant professional experience looking to develop further as leaders and carry through purposeful and imaginative change in their fields. Throughout the intensive module residencies and thesis preparation, degree candidates work together with veteran international faculty members as well as industry thought leaders committed to fostering creativity in business. Program Structure The Executive MBA’s flexible design allows participants to choose the pace and order in which they complete the five required two-week residential modules. The Start Module in Berlin provides the fundamental knowledge about creative leadership and business essentials upon which subsequent modules are built. Participants benefit from cross-cultural learning in Europe, Asia and the US, and grow together within the extraordinary Berlin School global community. The program culminates in the completion of an in-depth research thesis that advances the candidate's own knowledge of leadership and its practice – a work that also contributes to the wider global understanding of forward-thinking creative leadership. Curriculum Today's creative leaders must combine essential business skills with a deep understanding of ongoing changes in enterprises, markets and society. A passionate engagement with people and innovation is also part of the job description. The Berlin School Executive MBA curriculum prepares participants for greater success by guiding them through a unique journey of personal and professional growth. Our graduates emerge with a commitment to a never-ending learning process that teaches them to lead differently. They prosper in a world increasingly defined by new technologies, ways of working and social interactions. The language of instruction is English. Faculty The most profound learning happens when dedicated experts spark your curiosity and support your personal development. Our award-winning team of experts from Europe, Asia and the Americas is made up of committed researchers, practitioners and lifelong educators. The knowledge and skills they bring to the classroom empower participants to harness lifelong learning skills – opening their eyes to new ways of seeing the world, and their minds to the process of acting on it in a meaningful way. Participants Our diverse community hails from dozens of countries and every major creative industry. The leaders who come to us are designers, filmmakers, writers, strategists, journalists, producers, programmers, marketers, entrepreneurs, CEOs and other executives. What ultimately defines our participants and alumni is a restless curiosity and passionate commitment to cross traditional boundaries and forge the future of creative work and business. In the process of becoming creative leaders, they join a lifelong global network of colleagues, friends and fellow creative learners. Tuition Costs Tuition and fees are €53,000 (excluding German VAT). This does not include travel and accommodation. We also advise applicants to plan for around 70 hotel/apartment nights and five round-trip flights, which adds approximately €7,000-12,000 in additional costs, depending on hotel tastes and flight distances. In addition, there are of course small incidental expenses, such as translation of your university transcripts for matriculation (if they aren't already in English or German). And although we provide plenty of snacks and beverages during the hours of the course, most days you will also have to buy lunch and/or dinner. There are a number of different ways to finance your Executive MBA. Degree Earned Participants who successfully complete all academic program requirements and defend their research thesis earn the Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Creative Leadership degree. The degree is conferred by Steinbeis University, Germany’s oldest and most prestigious private university, which is at the center of a leading network of programs, institutes and schools known for its innovation, technology research and transfer. The program and credential have been accredited by the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) since 2008. FIBAA is a supranational European-based agency that is internationally recognized for accrediting MBA and other degree programs in the fields of management studies, economics, law and social sciences. Scholarships Most of our scholarships are partial. Eligibility criteria vary from scholarship to scholarship, and to some extent from intake to intake. The number of awards offered and the exact amounts of financial aid they provide also varies. We announce a call for scholarship applications approximately six months before the intake for which they are intended. [-]
