About RBS

The School of Business (RBS) is a constituent school of Renmin University of China. It grew out of the Department of Factory Management, the Department of Trade Economics and the Program of Finance and Accounting. These three departments were established in 1950 and were the first business administration programs in China. With a history of more than 60 years, RBS has produced significant numbers of professional managers for businesses and government agencies, trained faculty for higher education institutions, and developed a large number of new programs and research fields. As a pioneer in management education in China, RBS has authored textbooks widely used in Chinese universities and advised government and businesses in decision-making and enterprise reform.

RBS has seven departments: General Management, Organization and Human Resources, Marketing, Management Science and Engineering, Trade Economics, Accounting, and Finance. RBS has 148 full-time faculty members with specializations in all major disciplines, including both cutting-edge researchers and effective instructors.

The School’s Business Administration program is designated by the Ministry of Education as a Level I National Key Subject and is therefore eligible for government support. Only four other programs in China have the same recognition. RBS’ Business Administration program was ranked first in China during the last national evaluations in 2012. Enterprise Management, Industrial Economics and Accounting have also been ranked as Level II National Key Subjects. RBS has 2 PhD programs in 7 disciplines, 5 professional master programs and 2 undergraduate programs in 6 disciplines, covering all areas of business administration education.

In recent years, internationalization has become a cornerstone of RBS’ strategic focus. In 2013, the School was accredited by AACSB and is in the process of renewing its EQUIS accreditation. RBS has established long-term partnerships with over 55 prestigious universities in the US, Canada, UK, Denmark, Ireland, Finland, France, Japan, Korea, Australia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Hong Kong and Taiwan. These partnerships involve faculty visits, student exchange programs and research collaboration. Overseas faculty and international students are steadily increasing. In 2011, RBS joined GNAM(the Global Network for Advanced Management), initiated by the School of Management at Yale University. It now boasts 23 members. All these initiatives are increasing RBS’ global profile.

As part of Renmin University of China, the School supports the University’s principles of “The people's university, a spirit of humanism and a focus on humanities and social sciences”. The University’s motto “seeking truth from the facts” informs the School’s approach to teaching and research. RBS’ mission is to “create management knowledge, educate leadership talents, and shape business practices locally and globally, to advance social progress.” The School provides management expertise that supports China’s development and produces global leaders. By fulfilling its mission, RBS aims to achieve its vision: “To be one of the most respected business schools in the world”.
