About Virgin Islands

About the U.S. Virgin Islands

The U.S. Virgin Islands consist of a group of isles in the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 60 kilometers east of Puerto Rico. They include four main islands: Saint John, Saint Thomas, Water Island, and Saint Croix, in addition to several dozen smaller land masses. Well renowned for their pristine white sand beaches, they are a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. Residents bask in the tropical climate that displays relatively little seasonal variation over the course of the year. After being held by several European powers over the course of two hundred years, the U.S. took possession of the Virgin Islands in 1917 and the population is therefore composed of citizens of the United States.

Business Studies in the U.S. Virgin Islands

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) is the main school offering business degrees in this area. Affording students both undergraduate as well as graduate studies, attendants are provided with a world-class education in line with any U.S. institution. Courses and curriculum are developed to meet the strictest standards.

Classes are held year round to accommodate those students who wish to take summer classes, however the main academic year consists of schooling starting in August and completing in April. There are a number of holidays throughout the year that provide students a break from the studying routine. In addition to days off for Easter, Martin Luther King Day, New Year’s Day, and more, students have a weeklong spring recess and at least two weeks over the winter holidays.

Funding a business degree in the U.S. Virgin Islands costs more for nonresidents than residents, but sources such as financial aid, scholarships, loan programs, deferred tuition payment plans, etc. can help defray the cost. Students can also retain employment in order to earn money for tuition and living expenses.

Receiving a bachelor’s degree in business from a university in the U.S. Virgin Islands takes approximately four years with full-time study. A master’s degree will take an additional two years, depending on the time commitment.
