Program Description

The Duke MBA Cross Continent

Duke University, The Fuqua School of Business

High-potential managers developing business and leadership skills to accelerate their careers.

For 20 months, you study with other professionals averaging six years of work experience. Flexibility is maximized through a dynamic format that blends the best aspects of traditional classroom teaching in North America, Europe, South Africa, and Asia with Internet-enabled distance learning. You continue your career while studying from anywhere in the world.

Beginning in late July, you complete 11 core courses, four elective courses and one integrative capstone course over eight terms. A term includes one-week of pre-class reading, one-week of residential classes, a one-week break, six weeks of Internet-enabled distance learning and another one-week break. Cross Continent students attend nine weeks of residential sessions (eight one-week sessions plus one week of orientation). Out of the eight residencies, five are in North America, one is in Europe, one is in South Africa, and another is in Asia. Terms 1, 2, and 6 take place on Duke's main campus in North America. Terms 3, 4, and 5 are international residencies.

To effectively lead, you need to stay on top of ever-changing technology. Duke is committed to providing you the latest technologies to maximize effectiveness and efficiency in each Duke MBA program, work and life. The Fuqua School of Business has carefully selected technologies to reinforce and extend the personal and social bonds that are created in the face-to-face portions of each program. We view technology as an enabler of communication and learning, and as a valuable resource for supporting our virtual community. It is a means, rather than an end.

The web environment is designed to keep you connected to the school, your classmates and up-to-date on all activities. Each course has its own space to deliver educational materials and promote active, social learning. Most importantly, each learning team has dedicated space to allow collaboration among team members on projects, papers, and other team-specific communications. All of these functions are conveniently consolidated in a central calendar that keeps everyone on task and on time.
