Thrive on Change
If you've spent time in the technology or biotechnology sectors, you already know that change is a given. Whether you're in engineering, research, marketing or human resources, the path to future success requires you learn to embrace change, develop an organization-wide perspective to frame new ways of operation, and acquire the confidence to thrive in the process.
SFU Business understands the technology sector's particular challenges and its need to respond with agility, assurance and creativity to meet those challenges. It is against this backdrop that Management of Technology (MOT) students learn to manage technology's mercurial forces, make split-second decisions, lead with confidence, and change direction when necessary.
You're ready to play a larger role in your organization, yet you need to become familiar with organizational issues like market and pricing strategies, financial options and intellectual property rights. The Management of Technology MBA is uniquely designed to complement your technology background with business theory and best practices, career resources and professional development opportunities.
The program begins with a week-long leadership intensive focusing on leadership skills, combining academic activities with personal and professional development workshops. This is an opportunity to get to meet the class and establish a sense of team-building and community among the cohort.
Cohort Model of Education
The MBA program is cohort-based for enhanced learning. Students spend the entire year with classmates whose business, cultural, and life experiences add immeasurably to the class and team experience.
The learning is collaborative, and the teaching based on cases and examples from the technology and biotech sectors. Work is done on both an individual and team basis. Team work hones complementary skills and diverse backgrounds to develop creative solutions to complex problems.
The applied project challenges students to put their learning to work. Each student produces a strategic analysis and recommendation, a business plan or detailed analysis and recommendation for a specific problem for a client organization.
