The MBA was first introduced in 1908 to teach business skills that remain important today, like accounting, finance, and operations. More than 100 years later, though, things are a little more complicated. A Weatherhead business degree builds on a foundation of core skills to prepare graduates for what’s happening in business right now — and for what’s around the corner.
Is This Program Right for Me?
Today’s business climate is moving with the times in a socially- and environmentally-conscious direction. Companies are actively seeking solutions for combining profitability with world betterment. If you’re interested in an MBA that offers rigorous instruction in core quantitative skills while taking the triple bottom line — people, planet, profit — seriously, then consider the Weatherhead MBA.
At Weatherhead, you’ll tackle hands-on project work using techniques drawn from the world of design. By adopting the right-brained tools of a designer, you’ll get in the habit of thinking beyond the default response to a problem. This training can take your creativity to the next level as you work to create sustainable value for business and society.
Innovating for Sustainable Value
We believe that tomorrow’s leaders can best serve their organizations, their communities and the world by acquiring techniques and knowledge that drive innovation for sustainable value. In our two yearlong MBA practicums, students experiment with design practices, like reframing questions and challenging standard protocols, to imagine powerful new ways to solve problems.
Students take either Design in Management: Concepts and Practices or the MBA Practicum in Sustainable Value and Social Entrepreneurship, named by Forbes as one of the 10 most innovative business school courses. Acting as consultants to area organizations from national companies like KeyBank to venerable nonprofits like the Cleveland Orchestra, students tackle business problems in all their real-world complexity. No wonder Businessweek declared our MBA among the 30 best design programs in the world.
