About Liechtenstein

On the upper Rhine valley in the European Alps, the German-speaking nation of Liechtenstein is nestled between Austria and Switzerland and is one of only two doubly landlocked nations in the world. This tiny nation has an area of just over 160 square kilometers and a population of less than 40,000, but boasts one of the highest GDP per capita in the world, one of the lowest unemployment rates (at 1.5 percent), and one of the world’s highest standards of living. It has a strong financial sector and has attracted many international businesses with its low corporate tax rates. Liechtenstein also produces a number of exports, including the largest number of false teeth in the world. Government consists of a constitutional monarch and an elected parliament. The country is mountainous and alpine, making it a popular destination for winter sports.

Liechtenstein has a literacy rate of 100 percent, and has been ranked the 10th best educational system in the world. It has four main centers of higher education. Private University in the Principality of Liechtenstein awards degrees in medicine and law. Liechtenstein Institute does not award degrees, but is an important center for research in history, law, politics and economics. The International Academy of Philosophy is a small institution that offers a PhD in philosophy. The University of Liechtenstein is the only place to study business in Liechtenstein. It is an excellent institution with internationally recognized programs and professors.

The first semester of the academic year begins in early September and runs through January. The following semester begins days later in February and terminates in June. Days off are given for Christmas, Easter, and several other Christian holidays, as well as for exams.

A business education in Liechtenstein comes at a cost comparable to that of other prestigious European universities. Tuition does not include room and board or books. Liechtenstein’s high standard of living comes at a price; it is one of the most expensive countries in Europe to live in.

Full-time students can earn a bachelor’s degree in six to eight semesters, depending on the program. A master’s degree requires another two to four semesters of study. Students may choose to complete all of their degree in Liechtenstein or to attend a partner university for part of the program.

Students who wish to study business in Liechtenstein will find some of the best programs in the world. The University of Liechtenstein’s Master in Entrepreneurship program is ranked second internationally. Students and professors come from over 40 nations, contributing to a diverse student body and an academic faculty with broad experience in international finance and business management.
